Set Timer

Know how long your set will actually run โ€” before you ever step in the booth.

R-Flow โ€” Set Timer
Set Timer inside R-Flow

What it does

Set Timer estimates the real-world length of a DJ set from the tracks you plan to play. Pull songs straight from your Rekordbox library, import a Rekordbox XML or TXT playlist export, or type tracks in by hand โ€” then Set Timer combines each track's length, its cue points, and your transition overlap to predict total set time. Tweak two sliders and watch the estimate update live, so you can build a set that lands exactly on your slot length.

Key features

Why it earns its place in your booth

1

Cue-point-aware estimates

When tracks are loaded directly from your Rekordbox database, Set Timer reads each track's cue points and uses the spread between them (or, with a single cue, the play-from-cue-to-end time) plus an outro buffer to estimate how much of the track you'll actually play โ€” not just its full runtime. Cue-based estimates are highlighted in the track list.

2

Three ways to build your list

Load songs straight from your Rekordbox database, import a Rekordbox XML or tab-delimited TXT export, or add tracks manually with title, artist, duration, and BPM.

3

Song picker with search and multi-select

Database and file imports open a picker where you can search by title or artist, tick individual songs, or hit All / None to bulk-select, then confirm with Add Selected.

4

Live-updating summary bar

The bottom bar always shows track count, total estimated set time (H:MM:SS), and average play time per track โ€” recalculated instantly as you add tracks or move the sliders.

5

Tunable estimation settings

A Default Play % slider (50โ€“100%) covers tracks without useful cue points, and an Overlap slider (0โ€“60 seconds) subtracts blend time between every pair of adjacent tracks โ€” mix longer, and your set gets shorter.

6

Detailed track table

Every track shows its position, title, artist, BPM, full duration, estimated play time, and cue count, with a one-click remove button per row plus a Clear All option.

How to use Set Timer

  1. Open the Set Timer app

You'll see a Track List card up top, an Estimation Settings card below it, an empty track area in the middle ("Import songs from XML/TXT or add tracks manually"), and a summary bar at the bottom.

  2. Add your tracks

Pick whichever source fits: click "Load from Rekordbox" to read your Rekordbox library directly (direct database loads โ€” including via "Browse Database" โ€” are the only method that also pulls in cue points), click "Import XML / TXT" to load a Rekordbox playlist export, or click "+ Add Track" to enter a title, artist, duration (like 5:30), and BPM by hand. If your Rekordbox database isn't found automatically, use "Browse Database" to point Set Timer at the file yourself.

  3. Pick the songs you want

For database and file imports, a picker dialog lists everything available. Type in the "Search by title or artist..." box to filter, use the checkboxes (or the All / None buttons) to select, then click "Add Selected". You can repeat imports to keep stacking tracks onto the list.

  4. Review the track table

Each row shows #, Title, Artist, BPM, Duration, Est. Play, and Cues. Est. Play is the time Set Timer thinks you'll actually spend on that track โ€” shown in the accent color when it was calculated from cue points. Click the small x on a row to remove one track, or "Clear All" to start over (it asks for confirmation).

  5. Dial in the Estimation Settings

Drag "Default Play %" (50โ€“100%, starts at 75%) to set how much of a track you typically play when there are no useful cue points. Drag "Overlap (sec)" (0โ€“60 seconds, starts at 30) to match your average blend time between tracks โ€” higher overlap means a shorter total set. Every change recalculates the whole list instantly.

  6. Read your set length

The summary bar at the bottom shows the total track count, "Estimated:" total set time in hours:minutes:seconds, and "Avg:" play time per track. Add or remove tracks until the estimate matches your slot.

Settings

Default Play %Slider from 50% to 100% (default 75%). The share of a track's full length counted when it has no useful cue points to estimate from.
Overlap (sec)Slider from 0 to 60 seconds (default 30). The blend time between adjacent tracks, subtracted once per transition from the total โ€” higher overlap means a shorter estimated set.

Pro tips

๐Ÿ’ก Load from your Rekordbox database instead of an XML file whenever possible โ€” cue-point-based estimates (highlighted in the Est. Play column) are far closer to how you really play a track than a flat percentage.
๐Ÿ’ก Set Overlap to match your actual mixing style: quick cuts around 10โ€“15 seconds, long blends at 45โ€“60. It's subtracted for every transition, so it adds up fast on long tracklists.
๐Ÿ’ก In the song picker, search for a crate or artist name and hit All to bulk-add a whole group in one go โ€” the picker only selects what's currently visible in the filter.
๐Ÿ’ก Watch the Avg readout in the summary bar: if your average play time per track looks too long or short for your style, adjust Default Play % until it feels right.
๐Ÿ’ก Aim your estimate slightly under your slot length โ€” it's easier to stretch a track than to get cut off mid-drop.

Good to know

โš ๏ธ This is a set-length estimator and planner, not a live countdown clock โ€” it doesn't run a timer during your show.
โš ๏ธ Cue points only come from a direct Rekordbox database load ("Load from Rekordbox" or "Browse Database"). Tracks imported from XML/TXT files or added manually have no cues, so they fall back to the Default Play % estimate.
โš ๏ธ If R-Flow can't find or open your Rekordbox database, it will tell you to use "Browse Database" to locate the file manually or to use "Import XML / TXT" instead (and if the library loads but shows no tracks, it suggests exporting your collection as XML from Rekordbox).
โš ๏ธ Direct database loading reads up to 5,000 tracks.
โš ๏ธ TXT import expects Rekordbox's tab-delimited playlist export with a header row; files without a recognizable title column will import nothing.
โš ๏ธ Tracks missing a duration in the export show 0:00 and contribute nothing to the estimate โ€” add them manually with the correct length instead.
โš ๏ธ The track list lives only in the current session โ€” it isn't saved when you close R-Flow.
โš ๏ธ Estimates are heuristics based on cue spread, play percentage, and overlap; treat the total as a planning figure, not a guarantee.
