What it does

The Video Tools app is R-Flow's built-in batch video converter for getting footage stage-ready. Point it at a single clip or a whole folder of videos and it re-encodes everything to HAP .mov files โ€” the GPU-accelerated codec family Resolume decodes effortlessly in real time โ€” so your clips scrub, loop, and layer without stuttering. FFmpeg with HAP support is bundled right into the app, so there's nothing to install: select, convert, drop into your decks.

How to use Video Tools

  1. Open the Video Tools app

    Click the Video Tools app in R-Flow. The Batch Video Converter to DXV/HAP section sits at the top, with a Requirements panel below confirming the bundled encoder is ready.

  2. Choose your input

    Next to the Input field, click 'Folder' to pick a whole directory of videos, or 'File' to pick one clip (MP4, AVI, MOV, MKV, WMV, FLV, WebM, or M4V). The chosen path appears in the Input field.

  3. Choose where converted files go

    Click 'Browse' next to the Output Folder field and pick a destination. The folder is created automatically if it doesn't exist yet. Converted clips land here as .mov files with the same names as the originals.

  4. Set your options

    Leave 'Include subfolders' checked to convert everything inside nested folders too (their structure is mirrored in the output), or uncheck it to convert only the top level. The Normal / High Quality selector sits alongside it.

  5. Start the conversion

    Hit the red 'Start Batch Conversion' button. It switches to 'Converting...' and locks while the job runs; the progress bar fills as the status line ticks through each file, e.g. [3/12] converting: clipname.mp4.

  6. Review the results

    When the batch finishes, a 'Conversion Complete' popup reports how many files converted successfully, how many failed, and where the output folder is. Point Resolume's file browser at that folder and start dropping clips into your decks.

๐Ÿ’ก Re-running a batch is cheap: because existing outputs are skipped, you can add new clips to your source folder and hit 'Start Batch Conversion' again โ€” only the new files get processed.
๐Ÿ’ก Keep your original compressed files as archival masters and treat the HAP folder as your performance library โ€” HAP is built for playback, not for storage efficiency.

Good to know

โš ๏ธ Output is always a .mov file โ€” the converter renames every result to the .mov extension regardless of the input format.
โš ๏ธ Existing files in the output folder are skipped, never overwritten. If you want to re-convert a clip, delete or move its old .mov first โ€” otherwise the batch quietly keeps the existing version.
โš ๏ธ Skipped already-converted files are counted as successes in the final summary, so the 'Successfully converted' number can include clips that were left untouched.
โš ๏ธ In the current version, both quality modes produce standard HAP output โ€” the High Quality selection does not yet change the encoder settings.
โš ๏ธ HAP trades file size for playback speed: expect converted files to be much larger than the originals. Convert to a drive with room to spare.
โš ๏ธ Per-file progress is approximate โ€” for a single-file conversion the bar shows a rough midpoint until the file finishes, and batch progress advances per file, not per frame.
โš ๏ธ Only two conversions run in parallel by design; encoding is memory-hungry, so very large batches take time โ€” kick off big libraries before a break rather than right before doors.
โš ๏ธ If the app reports 'FFmpeg with HAP codec not found', the bundled encoder couldn't be located (typically when running from source) โ€” install FFmpeg with HAP support and make sure it's in your PATH.
